In Etowah, the Restaurant You Want Depends on the Day of the Week

Pull into Sideways Farm & Brewery on a Tuesday evening hoping for a pint on the porch and you'll find a locked gate, a gravel lot with nobody in it, and maybe a few chickens wandering near the flower rows. Nothing is wrong. The farm is simply closed Monday through Wednesday, and no amount of wanting a beer changes that.

That gate is the whole story of eating in Etowah. This isn't a town with five restaurants competing for your business on any given night. It's a town where each place claims a specific slice of the week and leaves the rest of the calendar dark. Learn the rotation and you eat well constantly. Ignore it and you spend a lot of evenings driving to a place that isn't open.

The Farm That's Only Open Four Days

Sideways Farm and Brewery sits at 62 Eade Road, and it was Etowah's first craft brewery when Jon and Carrieann Schneider opened it in August 2018. It is also, by design, one of the hardest places in town to catch on impulse. The tasting room runs Thursday and Friday from 4 to 8 p.m., Saturday from noon to 8 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, the farm belongs to the sheep, the chickens, and whoever booked a private weekday tour.

Friday afternoons carry their own fixture inside that schedule. From 4 to 7 p.m., local musicians show up with their own instruments to play together on the porch, a food truck parks on site, and the crowd tends to be regulars who found the place years ago and never really left. It reads less like a bar and more like a standing invitation that happens to serve beer conditioned with local wildflower honey.

The practical takeaway: if your plan is "let's grab a drink at Sideways" on a weeknight, check the day first. Thursday works. Monday does not.

The One Place That's Basically Always There

Zeke's Greenside Tavern, tucked into Etowah Valley Golf and Resort at 470 Brickyard Road, runs the opposite schedule. It's open seven days a week, Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday and Saturday until 7 p.m. If Sideways is the place you plan around, Zeke's is the place you fall back on when nothing else lines up.

It has its own rituals too. Friday nights mean prime rib, a tradition regulars mention before anything else on the menu. Live music runs Thursdays and Saturdays, and the dining room and patio both look out over the fairways, which makes it a reasonable answer to "where should we take my parents when they visit" without much debate.

Breakfast Has a Hard Stop

The Dutch Cupboard, at 6500 Brevard Road, only exists for part of the day. It opens at 6 a.m. and closes at 2 p.m., Monday through Friday, with no dinner service at all. That window is the whole identity of the place. Locals go for the biscuits and white gravy and the blueberry pancakes, and the diner has recently been renovated, which shows in a health inspection score of 92.5. But if you're hungry at 6 p.m. and thinking about the Dutch Cupboard, you're out of luck. It closed four hours ago.

Pizza Night and Seafood Night Aren't the Same Night

Two more anchors round out the week, and they don't overlap much either.

Blue Ridge Pizza Company, at 6336 Brevard Road, keeps the longest hours of anyone in town. It's open all seven days, Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday until 9, and weekends from noon to 8. It's family owned, and the "Fat Gary" is the pie regulars order first when they walk in without a plan. This is the place that's open when you don't feel like planning anything.

The Salty Landing, at 6577 Brevard Road, is built for an occasion rather than a quick bite. The kitchen brings in fresh seafood five days a week and pours from a lineup of 24 beers on tap, with outdoor seating running year round. It's also where Etowah goes for a night out with music attached. A group called 28 Pages played there this month, and the Tuxedo Junction Quartet is booked for October. Those aren't nightly happenings. They're the kind of date you circle on a calendar because you know it won't repeat next Tuesday.

The Saturday Morning You're Not Expecting

Somewhere in that same rotation is a flea market at 110 Brickyard Road that opens its gates at 8 a.m. on the Saturdays it runs. It's the kind of stop that fills the gap between a Dutch Cupboard breakfast and whatever the evening holds, and it's easy to miss if you're only looking at restaurant hours and not the whole weekend.

Why the Gate Matters More Than the Menu

None of these five places is trying to be everything. Sideways doesn't want to be open Tuesday. Zeke's isn't trying to out-cook the seafood at Salty Landing. The Dutch Cupboard has no interest in dinner. Once you stop treating them as competitors and start treating them as a schedule, Etowah's food scene stops feeling thin and starts feeling like it was built by people who know exactly which night belongs to them.

That's a small thing to know, but it's the kind of thing that separates someone who's lived here a while from someone still checking Google at 6 p.m. wondering why the porch lights are off. Etowah doesn't have a Main Street. What it has instead is a set of standing appointments, and once you know them, you stop needing a map.
